More Fury Road Icons

Okay, well, just the one, but whatever.

I've seen Fury Road four times now. I'd go again right this minute if I could*. I have a countdown in my phone to when it goes on sale on Blu-Ray, and I'm stoked beyond all joy that it's before Dragon Con, so I can watch it while I travel, etc, though I'd love for it to just stay in the dollar theater forever, too. It's still amazing, and gods help me, but I still stand by what I said the first time I saw it, when I told hubby it would be the best movie of the year. When he reminded me of a little film that comes out in 128 days, I responded without thought with, "There's no way Star Wars will be that good."**

Yes. I said that. I did. And it would hurt me to admit that if Fury Road wasn't so bloody brilliant.

But it is, so like I said, I stand by it. And you know how much that means for a Star Wars geek like me. But seriously. For expecations alone, I think it's going to be true. Because even with all the buzz I'd heard from people I trust, I still didn't expect Fury Road to change me. But it did. And because it's Star Wars, I expect Episode VII to blow me away, so it has a much harder job if it wants to thrill me. Just the facts.***

But I digress. I could do that a lot more when talking about Fury Road. I could tell you about how I took my sister-in-law to see it last week and she cried three times and wants to see it again. She who "doesn't like action movies." Yeah...

But again, I digress. I just wanted to post an icon from one of my very favorite scenes in the movie. One I finally got a pic of due to a lovely YouTuber. An icon of a true handshake between equals. An icon that tells me that we can perhaps "together, come across some kind of redemption."

*Yes, I know I could buy the Vudu version now on early digital release, but I have an older phone and it won't run that app, so I'm not paying the money for that just to watch it on my computer. Fuck you, Apple. Fuck you. Ahem. Moving on.

**Could you imagine it if was, though? Oh, be still my heart.

***I still haven't even seen a preview for Star Wars, and I don't plan to, but one played at my most recent viewing of Fury Road. I curled up and closed my eyes and plugged my ears and didn't see or hear anything except that music. Couldn't avoid that. And when it played, I literally jumped. I wasn't prepared for it without the visual cues of the preview ending. I flinched hard core and almost wet myself. Just from the music. And when I saw a poster recently in a theater, I nearly cried, because it made it real. And I've already taken December 17th and 18th off work. So yeah. Expecations are different for that movie, and it won't have to do much to put a huge smile on my face. But it simply can't knock my socks off like Fury Road did because it can't surprise me in that way. There's no way I won't see it at least twice, but it's...different. Again, I stand by my words, may the Force forgive me. It shocked me how easily they came out of my mouth then, but that was telling of how great Fury Road is, I think. Very telling, because no matter what, I am still a Jedi, like my father before me.

Hm...methinks perhaps we could watch it at Dragon Con?

Let me discuss with the group, but I would not be opposed to paying to watch it on pay-per-view in our room or something...just saying...of course, at Dragon Con, despite the lovely of the Fury Road, I might fall asleep...nah, not on the Fury Road. ;)

I loved this post.

My boy* who dragged me to see Fury Road the first time is a Huge Fucking Star Wars Nerd. It's super cute and adorable. I've linked this to him, because I think he can relate to a lot of the "but Fury Road is so good" "BUT STAR WARS!" confusion.

*we have been to a lot of movies together where as the credits roll, I turn and smile and say "well yes...but Bechdel test?" --this was very much a movie he needed to drag me to!

Best. Movie. Ever. But, but, but...yes. They are all different, and I love all my favorites in different ways, but right now, it's all Fury Road, all the time. ;)
