You may not have had the chance to follow the news: LJ has been unreliable because certain black hat types in Russia are trying to knock it offline. And they have a lot of resources to attack with:

They’re after LJ because it’s the main platform, in Russia, for free political commentary and discussion, with one particular major anti-corruption blogger as the #1 target. And there are elections coming up in Russia.

Our fannish activities are being messed up because LJ is fighting for freedom of speech in a hostile world . . . which has made me much fonder of LJ than I have been for quite a while.

Let me rephrase:
