John Sheppard smacked one hand against the doorframe of the small cabin he shared with Rodney McKay, Carson Beckett and Ronon Dex. This supposed “guy’s weekend” was rapidly going from bad to worse.

“How much longer do you think we’ll be cooped up in here?” he asked, as snow fell steadily outside.

It was a rhetorical question, but Carson piped up with an answer anyway.

“There’s no way to know, Colonel.”

John sighed. “I can’t believe we decided to wait this out here instead of heading to town.”

“The way I hear it, we may be the lucky ones,” said Ronon from across the room.

“How do you figure?” asked John.

Ronon rolled his eyes and turned back to the book he was reading. “Haven’t you been listening to the radio?”

“Nah. It just says the same thing over and over again. I try to tune it out,” answered John.

“Well,” said Carson, “Ronon’s right. The last weather report said that the town’s lost power all over the place. At least we’ve still got electricity up here.”

“For now,” muttered Ronon without looking up.

“Aye,” acknowledged Carson. “But if it was going to go out, it probably would have by now. The storm’s nearly over.”

“And yet we’re still stuck here,” said John.

Carson sighed. “The plow will make its way up here soon enough, Colonel. And then we can drive out. In the meantime, we’ve got plenty of food, the heat’s working, and we’ve got power, so I suggest you sit tight, before I give you the Rodney treatment.”

“The Rodney treatment?” asked John.

“Carson, what in God’s name are you talking about?”

“Well, you might’ve noticed it’s a wee bit quieter in here than it has been previously.”

John’s brow furrowed in confusion, so Carson helped him out. He nodded toward Rodney, who was sleeping peacefully on the couch behind John in a half-sitting position.

John turned and stared at Rodney for a full minute before slowly turning back to Carson.

“You didn’t,” whispered John.

“Maybe I did, and maybe I didn’t,” answered Carson with a grin.

John’s eyes widened. “You did, didn’t you?”

Carson shrugged. “That’s for me to know and you not to find out, Colonel.”

But the twinkle in Carson’s eye gave him away, and he knew it. He smirked like the proverbial cat that ate the canary, and John laughed out loud. For his part, Ronon just sighed and turned his back on the pair, still absorbed in whatever he was reading.

Behind John, Rodney stirred slightly, but did not wake, and when his laughter died down, John smirked back at Carson. He didn’t say anything, but he didn’t need to. This time, it was Carson who read the twinkle in John’s eye, and like his own a moment before, it needed no interpretation. Carson smiled, knowing his secret was safe.

And it was, too. John would never tell anyone that Carson had drugged Rodney just to shut him up.

He’d also be extra careful not to get on Carson’s bad side in the future.

And, you know, he has questionable medical ethics *ahem, Michael, anyone?* so this worked for me. Granted, he usually crosses the line when desperate times do actually call for desperate measures, but hey...I think this qualifies! Thanks for reading!

I think when it comes to Carson having to deal with a whiney, bitchy (you know he would have been) Rodney, the ends would justify the means to our fair Dr.
