Disclaimer:  Accio, Copyrights! Oh, darn. Wand backfired. Well, it was worth a shot.

It’s always the same.

It’s like a fog slowly lifting from my mind, then shattering in the sun. Memories are blurry for what seems like forever, and then… BAM! They suddenly solidify.

This time is no different.

Blurred images of Harry… Hermione… Ron… and Peter?

Oh, sweet Merlin… what happened?

BAM! My eyes snap open and my mind clears.

I was at Hogwart’s when I turned.

Bloody hell.

What have I done?

Panic grips me and I feel the tremors start. It’s worse to return to myself than to become the beast. Bile rises in my throat as the uncertainty of the night terrifies me. I force it down as I have a hundred times before and I start the self-inventory I learned as a boy.

All limbs present.

Nothing obvious stuck in my teeth.

Naked, of course, but that’s to be expected.

Countless small scratches, I’m sure.

Thorns in my left foot, cockleburs in my hair.

Nothing unusual.

Except for the deep gashes across my chest… and why does my neck hurt so much all of a sudden? This is way worse than normal. I move just right and fire shoots across my back.

I touch the offending area before I realize it and my hand comes away bloody.

There’s still enough of the wolf in me that I sniff the red liquid without thinking.

It’s my blood, alright.

But there’s something else there, too.

Something familiar.

Oh, Gods. My eyes widen as I place the scent. I can think of only one thing.

Was it enough?

There’s only one way to find out.

I’m up in a flash.

Please let it have been enough.

It’s dark enough still that no one sees me.

James’ cloak is right where Snape left it.

I’m in the hospital wing in record time - faster than I ever made it as a boy.

And there they are. All of them - Harry, Ron, and Hermione. I almost weep in relief. Hell, I’m even glad to see Snape. Of course, that’s because he’s berating Dumbledore about a certain former convict’s escape (for what looks to be the millionth time), but that’s beside the point.

It was enough.

My neck throbs again as my adrenaline bottoms out. My legs nearly buckle and I bite back a gasp.

Dumbledore looks right through me, but I hardly notice.

I’m too busy thanking my lucky stars.

Many changes are coming, and there is much to do, but that can wait.

For now, I’m just grateful that Sirius Black had enough sense to choose an Animagus form that could kick my ass.

Thank you, old friend.

Thank you.

I read this before but I didn't comment. Huh. WhAt's up with that?

Liked a lot. Liked the touch where he smelled the blood.
I am getting re-intrigued about the complex relationship these two had. So fraught with history, and tension...but then, even after major betrayal of trust, there's that bond.
Yeah, I am swinging back to "swoon" with the possibilities of this pair. Not so much "pairing", just "pair". But still...

I hear ya. Swoon, indeed. Thanks!

And yeah...what's up with that? I mean, come on. How am I supposed to write without constant feedback? *kidding*
