Video Games And Novels Married?

Or at least working together?  Surely not!  Oh, the scandal!  Nothing good could come of that.

The Guardian begs to disagree, and it lists none other than PJ Haarsma as the only modern author to pick up the long-forgotten video game torch in this article!  Take a read.  What do you think?  Do we need more authors to write video games?  I, for one, am on board with that.

FANTASTIC! Go, PJ, you little innovator, you...continuing to slowly get more exposure in the media. About time!
I agree, as well, that it is so odd we don't have more crossover.
We have some games based on popular stories, but many of them are so 'porn-like' in their lack of innovation or plot. More true author-written or more heavily writer-influenced games would be great. You'd get more real games with real plots or real insight/ education and a furthering of the story or the story's universe, rather that "plot, what plot?" types.
It is certainly time for more of this.

Hey, hey, you know what? I made a Stargate video game! It's like The Sims! See, you have this little house, right? And in the house live: Jack and Sam! See, they got married and lived happily ever after and had 2.2 kids and a dog and the dog was named Danny because the kids were Janet and Jack Jr and, and, and...

Yeah - more real writing in games, please!

(and for the record, my game would NOT be that one!)
